This paper attempts to explore how the main character Chi Pheo is represented in the first extract Nam Cao's short story "Chi Pheo" through experiential meaning realized in transitivity system. The discussion of the experiential meaning explored will enable the researcher to have a better understanding of the main character Chi Pheo depicted in the first extract that describes Chi Pheo's cursing words. The theoretical framework employed for analysis is Systemic Functional Linguistics. The data for analysis is all clause simplexes collected from the first extract of Chi Pheo's cursing words. The mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) are adopted to fulfil the overarching dim of the research. The findings show that relational and verbal processes are mostly used in this part and followed by mental and material processes. There are no behavioural and existential processes found in this part. In these clause simplexes investigated, the main character Chi Pheo takes the central role. It is recommended that this research can be used as an effective source for students who take an interesting studying Vietnamese language from Systemic Functional Linguistics view.
