This study aims at examining the beneficial impacts of applying the Project Based Learning Approach - a news blog project in a translation II course at a Vietnamese university. There were 125 participants who were English major students in their third year study. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through online questionnaires and focus group. The findings proclaimed that students' translation skills, economic knowledge and vocabulary, collaboration and cooperation, peer - learning were significantly improved after participating the news blog project. Developing a good reading habit is another positive aspect of the application. Furthermore, disagreement among groupmates, time constraints and heavy workload were perceived as the most difficult obstacles. Finding the latest news and leaving comments on others posts was also found to be stressful to some students. However, high retention of students towards the use of news blog project recommends this teaching technique should be employed in translation classrooms.
